Frequently Asked Questions...
Q:
From what are the fine art prints and canvases produced?
A: Both the fine art pints and canvases are produced from an original oil painting.
Q:
How long does it take to produce an original oil painting?
A: The length of time it takes to paint an original oil painting depends on the size of the canvas and the composition of the painting. A significant amount of research goes into each painting, including the collation of reference images and choosing the most effective layout for the images selected. The average time for the paintings on the Killian Art website is anywhere between 100 to 250 hours. The 2005 RBS Six Nations Champions painting below took 250 hours to complete.

| Firstly,
preliminary sketches are drawn to indicate the most appropriate
layout. The process can take a number of hours before
Patrick is happy with the final composition. |
Once Patrick is happy with the layout, the figures are drawn to scale on transfer paper and placed onto the canvas. |
All transfer images are placed onto the canvas where they are adjusted to produce the final layout. |

|
| Once the final layout is drawn onto the canvas, the real work begins. Patrick begins by blocking in the background colour, together with skin colour to create a clear visual of how the players will look. |
Blocks of colours are added to each element of the painting to produce a distinct layout, which enables Patrick to focus on the detail required to enhance each element. |
Once the main blocks of colours have been added, Patrick sets about adding detail to the painting, which brings each player alive on the canvas and gives Patrick a clear visual of how the completed painting will look. |

|
| The final level of details is added. |
Once the finer detail has been added, the original oil painting is left to dry for approximately one week. Once the original oil painting is dry, it is taken to a photographic studio where a digital image is taken, from this the fine art prints and canvases are produced. |
Q:
How is a fine art print and canvas produced?
A: Once an original oil painting is completed and allowed to fully dry, it is taken to a photographic studio where a digital image is taken of the original oil painting. The direct digital capture is done using a 384 mega pixel scanning camera system, as used by the world's top art galleries. Special optics and lighting, combined with specialised techniques are used to match the digital file directly to the painting. The digital photograph is then checked by Killian Art's publishers to ensure the image is of the highest quality. Once the publisher and Killian Art are happy with the digital image, additional elements are added, such as the pencil drawings for the bottom left and right corners and the text describing the elements of the painting. Once the final layout has been approved, Killian Art's publishers will set about printing the fine art prints and canvases.

Q:
What happens once an edition sells out?
A: Once an edition sells out, no further fine art prints or canvases will be produced. All fine art prints and canvases are marked with the limited edition number. The limited edition number is written in pencil on the fine art prints and acrylic on the canvases. All fine art prints and canvases come with a signed and numbered certificate of authenticity.
